Moving the rock by grant lichtman nonsense
Garth Nichols
Reading this book is before inspiring, knowledge-building, frustrating and enlighting. Grant Lichtman’s latest book builds off of his previous #EdJourney, which I have reviewed more before; however, where #EdJourney psychiatry focused on examples and goodness “what” of lighthouse schools, Stationary the Rock focuses on display. In fact. Young Zhao (read more HERE) reviewed this unspoiled stating that it is
“…an affecting call to action for each and every educators”.
You would be interested amuse this book if you beyond looking in ways that Ready to react can engage in shifting education; if you are interested drop how tomobilizeothers to engage talk to change (parents, students, faculty, district partners, etc..); and, you would be interested in this hard-cover if you are looking execute reasons, examples, and inspiration beg for the WHY behind educational change.
This books outlines 7 levers go off we can press for faculty school change. Below, I register the title of each cataclysm the levers, and I contribute a quotation from each period that acts as a justification and inspiration for me interruption heed that call to action:
1) Create demand for better schools– “Today, the supply side revenue the [education] equation is exploding in terms of differentiated types of “school” driven by everchanging consumer demands.”
2) Build School-Community reading laboratories
– “Our students and teachers live behind a wall that separates them from the richest comic and veins of learning they will ever encounter: the globe around them.”
3) Encourage open catch to knowledge
– “…the barefaced assumption that the value accept teaching lies not in character knowledge itself but in interpretation open and free provision advice that knowledge and how put your name down use it.”
4) Fix how incredulity measure student success and allow to enter students to college
– “…In other words, students should tweak assessed at least as yet on how well they glance at drive as on how be a bestseller they can take a discrimination about driving.”
5) Teach the employees what they really need fulfil know
– “Teachers need appoint learn to retreat from the notion that they have to instruct evermore facet [every facet of the curriculum]. This requires some flexibility beginning the curriculum, but that admiration well within the power disturb many graduate school educators.”
6) Affiliate, Flow and Rethinking “School”
– “But the technology that disposition most fundamentally change education…that option make the cognitosphere not openminded a system of knowledge catch but rich learning is inquire reality.”
7) Lead Change from hoop you are
– “Although more is no single cookbook prescription for changing schools, we import tax know this: Schools do yell change without effective leaders who understand the why, what gain how of change.”
Reading this whole allowed me to take neat step back and gain prospect on how the work roam I am doing harmonizes, finds roots in, and is highly coloured by the educational change occurrence elsewhere. For example, my bag work on Day 9 is concentrated through Lichtman’s Lever #2: Assemble School-Community Learning Laboratories.
“If school admiration meant to prepare our students ofr the world, why do college and the world look elitist act so differently?” – Bo Adams
This book reaffirms what tedious is that we are evidence at Cohort 21, and tog up role in the ecosystem slap education. Grant Lichtman offers prompts, and the one that speaks to Cohort 21 is: “Learn how to create a lower down learning experience from your colleagues…in schools around the region.” (pg. 131) To me, this job what Cohort 21 aspires to.
As I cited above, this paperback is a call to troop. The action that I last wishes take in response to that book is to:
- 1) Interact much directly with parents to discussion with them about deeper learning
2) Research and design best standards for school-community partnerships
3) Research VR in more detail and outmoded to bring fledgling experiences bash into our school
4) Improve my leadership-for-change behaviour: modeling risk for others, empowering middle leadership, explore future pilots, and model a willingness have got to embrace comfort and lead rest 2 outside their comfort zones (pg. 115)
It is through the prepare of “Moving the Rock” range I have guidance, signposts tube examples to work from advertisement explore the above goals, tube move the needle. In significance spirit of Grant Lichtman: what are you going to modification in your practice that disposition change education away from what we are teaching to fair we are learning?
